North Base & Stapleton
Can I Live
Nation Of Shopkeepers
Release date 8 June 2015
A regular microphone don in the drum & bass scene, Stapleton’s words can be heard on records, videos and in the clubs. Currently touring with Ram Records’ man of the moment Rene LaVice, Stapleton is an undeniable presence in the world of 170bpm+ beats and basslines.
Meanwhile, Manchester-based trio Northbase can count Andy C, Annie Mac, Friction, MistaJam, Jack Beats and Sub Focus among their supporters.
Coming together for a quirky slice of urban hype ‘Can I Live’ sees the foursome – three producers, one lyricist – drop social commentary, grizzling bass and chunky beats with a hilarious music video to run alongside it.
For the clubs there are the remixes. And Northbase & Stapleton haven’t played games when it comes to those. First up Signs drops a rework that’s packed with tribal energy, taming the quirkiness of the original mix to give it a dark and deep feel. Need For Mirrors strip back the vocals and add layers of atmosphere over a rumbling bassline and crisp breaks. Last but not least Resound draws for a synth-washed slice of bass that rounds off the package perfectly.
And there are storming D&B remixes by Signs
