Grime pioneer Kano returns with his first official release in nearly three years – a bolshie double A-side titled Hail / New Banger and released in conjunction with this years Record Store Day, on 13th April, 2015.
Produced by Glasgow native Rustie, lead single Hail is accompanied by a gritty, black and white video directed by Rsky Roadz and Kano, that gives a first-person view around the East End streets of London before culminating with a minute-long teaser of it’s counterpart, New Banger.
Hail and New Banger show an emphatic statement of intent from the East London born MC to let the masses know that he is back, and grittier than ever. Sparing no expense in delivering two club-ready singles, the former N.A.S.T.Y crew member produces sharp flows over antagonistic guitar riffs and thundering drums, packing a gargantuan sonic punch that will have the listener reeling for days.
First premiered by Mistajam, Hail made an instant impact gaining support from the likes of Zane Lowe, Logan Sama and Trevor Nelson across BBC Radio 1/1Xtra, Kiss FM and Capital Xtra. Kano was later invited to perform the single for a Best of British Live Lounge session, showcasing that his raw live energy certainly hasn’t waned during his time off.
With whispers of an impending album release at the tail of the summer, listeners can take solace that this is the first in a barrage of new music from one of Grimes pioneers.
Kano will next perform as part of the Boiler Room’s Grime Series at London’s ICA, on Sunday 8th March with Ghetts, Invasion Alert and Moleskin.
Hail / New Banger will be released as part of the 2015 Deal Real Legacy pop-up which launches on Record Store Day, Saturday 18 April 2015 at 14 Newburgh Street, Carnaby with the first in-store curated by Kano.
